Chhattisgarh government is going to launch Nyuntam Aay Yojana (NYAY) or minimum income guarantee scheme for poor people. CG will become the 1st state in India to implement key promise made by congress party in 2019 Lok Sabha election manifesto. Under this scheme, govt. will provide Rs. 72,000 per annum to poor people.
The state govt. of Chhattisgarh is likely to launch a pilot project for the NYAY scheme. NYAY was the corner stone of the Congress party campaign with the slogan – Ab Hoga Nyay (now there will be justice).
The election manifesto of CG govt. had the tag line – Abki Baar, Garibi par waar (This time, strike on poverty) while providing minimum income guarantee to the poor.
Chhattisgarh NYAY Scheme Pilot Project
This Nyuntam Aay Yojana in Chhattisgarh is going to boost the rural economy. This NYAY scheme would be a surgical strike on poverty, diesel for the engine of Indian economy and would re-monetize the economy. Now the CG state govt. will deposit an amount of Rs. 6,000 per month directly into the bank accounts of poor people. This would be done through Direct Benefit Transfer (DBT) mode.
This move of Chhattisgarh govt. is against the PM Modi’s claim of depositing Rs. 15 lakh in bank account of Indians and bringing back the black money deposited abroad. However, the congress party was unable to create a buzz about the NYAY scheme in the recent elections.
CG NYAY Scheme pilot project promises to provide Rs. 72000 per annum to 20% of the poorest families. CG govt. claims that it has necessary fund inputs to keep the economy afloat. This pilot project will start in a small area at first just like the recent pilot project to fight malnutrition in Bastar. This Harik Nani Bera campaign to expand to all districts in Chhattisgarh on 2 October 2019.
The work on finalising modalities of the NYAY Scheme is still going on and would soon be chartered out. The state govt. is meeting with various economists and convenor of Congress manifesto committee to lay down the criteria for Universal Basic Income Scheme.
In the current economic scenario, NYAY has become even more relevant to inject financial fluidity. NYAY scheme will provide basic level of support to rural income and will enable people to focus on basic amenities like health, education etc.
