Shah Jahan, the fifth Mughal Emperor, authorized the construction of the magnificent mausoleum known as Taj Mahal. This was built in honor and remembrance of his wife, Mumtaj Mahal.
A famous architect, Ustad Isha, designed this massive monument. It was decided to make a white marvel monument on the bank of river Yamuna. The construction works began in 1632, and about twenty thousand workers labored day and night for long twenty two years. The construction of the wonderful building completed in 1953.
In view of its exquisite beauty this mausoleum on the grave of Mumtaj has been described as a ‘dream in marble’. There are four minarets on the four corners with long stretch of water in front. It is called the queen of architecture and treasure in beauty.
Taj Mahal is included among the UNESCO World Heritage sites in India. The beauty of the moonlit Taj is really enchanting. To add to the beauty, there is a very beautiful garden, and a pool. Every year, more than 7 million visitors from far-off places come to have a glimpse of the Taj Mahal.
