A monsoon is a large body of wind that brings very heavy rain with it. Monsoons are a very significant part of India’s seasonal climate. Moreover, there are two key types of monsoon in India.
The first type of monsoon is the south west monsoon. This monsoon comes in from the sea in the late summer and it sweeps in a northerly direction across India. This is the largest monsoon in India, and when people speak of the monsoon season in this region of the world, it is usually the south west monsoon that they are thinking of as this is the ‘main’ monsoon. It is essential for agriculture in India, especially for seasonal crops of rice.
The second type of monsoon is a winter monsoon. This monsoon is a result of areas of high pressure meeting jets of tropical wind resulting in a smaller monsoon that flies over the Himalayas followed swiftly by clear, sunny skies.
