Slogans on Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel

Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel was a veteran freedom fighter and a close associate of Mahatma Gandhi. He held the post of Independent India’s first Home Minister and Deputy Prime Minister. Sardar Patel is considered as the main architect of modern Indian Civil Services, who also played an important role in the integration of over 500 princely states into the Dominion of India. His unwavering resolve for one united India, has earned him the sobriquet of “The Iron Man of India”. Sardar Patel also personally over saw the divisions of assets between India and Pakistan post partition.

Sardar Patel was born as Vallabhbhai Jhaverbhai Patel on 31st October 1875 at Nadiad in Gujarat. As a student, there was nothing extra ordinary about him and he was an average performer. Sardar Patel passed his matriculation examination at a later age of 22 years. His elders and relatives considered him as an unambitious man who is best suited only for some kind of mediocre job.

However, young Patel nurtured a desire to study in England to become a barrister and be a good one at that. To collect money for supporting his study in England, Patel, passed law exam and subsequently was called to the bar in Godhara. He was able to leave for England only at the age of 36 and got enrolled in the Inner Temple Inn, London. He completed his course in less than stipulated time and also topped the exam. Subsequently he came back to India and settled down in Ahmedabad, becoming a successful lawyer.

Sardar Patel’s first entry into public life came when he contested election for the post of Sanitation Commissioner of Ahmedabad in 1917 and won. The same year he had a meeting with Mahatma Gandhi and agreed to join Indian freedom struggle, greatly influenced by the latter’s philosophy. Since then, he didn’t look back and became a prominent leader and freedom fighter, starting his career from the state of Gujarat.
