Short Speech on Population

Dear teachers and students, we all know that one of the major issues gripping the modern world is population, which is also the topic of today’s speech. The increase in population has a number of adverse effects associated with it.

It also means that the limited land resource is to be utilised by more number of people than before, leading to congested cities and an increase in demand for more housing projects.

Dear audience, our country has 2nd largest population in the world, while having the 7th largest area, which means that there are 5 countries in the world, which have greater size but less population than ours. The overflowing population also puts pressure on the resources available with the country and thus leading to an increase in unemployment and hunger among the population. This has led us to look into alternative resources and the need to provide equal opportunity for all, which is proving to be difficult to manage. The families are growing exponentially and leading to a shortage of funds to properly run such a large family. The increase in competition for getting jobs also indirectly leads to an increase in other social evils.

Friends, it is well known to all that there are number of graduates coming out of college each year than the jobs available, forcing many of them to be under-utilised. The exodus of such well educated group from the country is also affecting the nation negatively, in terms of skill and economy.

It is the need of the hour to control the population growth, which can be achieved by spreading awareness among the citizens, especially in rural areas, regarding methods to be used for the purpose. They must be told about the ill – effects of overpopulation, its consequences on the country and the world.

So my dear audience, I would like to conclude the speech by mentioning the need to control the population growth, not only for our country but for nations all over the globe. And finally, I would also like to thank you all for such a patient hearing.
