Introduction
Sanjay Gandhi National Park, also known at Borivali National Park, is located in a Sub-urban district of Mumbai. It is spread over an area of 104 sq. km.

More than two million people reside within two kilometer of the boundary of Sanjay Gandhi National Park.
Many authorized clusters of human settlements have sprung up on the periphery of the park and a large number of families have encroached upon the forest land. This puts severe strain on protection measures and leads frequently to man-animal conflict.
Tropical Zone
This park is situated in tropical zone and it receives heavy rainfall during monsoon. Plant species of the forest are mangrove, teak etc. There are over 1000 species of flowering plants in the park.
Species
48 species of mammals, 251 species of birds, including migratory one, 38 reptiles and 9 amphibians have been identified in the park. The fauna found in the park are leopard,mongoose, jungle cat, langur, wild boar, mouse deer, otter, monkey, crocodile, etc.
Water birds such as vultures, kingfishers, parakeets, pigeons, quails, etc. are found in the Sanjay Gandhi National Park. In the park, fishes, snakes, pythons, turtles, etc. are also found.
Connectivity
The Borivali town has a railway station and local trains are available to reach Central Mumbai. The nearest airport is Santa Cruz, Mumbai, at a distance of 15 km.
Best season
This park attracts thousands of tourists every day. More than 30 lakhs person visit the park annually. October to March is the best period of visiting the park. The park has many rest houses for the tourists.
