The question of whether or not nuclear power is a renewable source of energy is something of a moot point. Nuclear energy is not strictly renewable in the way that solar energy is, as humans need to go through a new process of splitting atoms in order to generate more and more nuclear energy once the nuclear energy that we have been using gets used up.
Nevertheless, nuclear energy is often described as being a type of ‘honorary’ renewable energy. This is because once it has been used, nuclear energy can be replenished very quickly as long as we have the right equipment to hand.
Though our supply of nuclear energy is not likely to run out for many centuries, nuclear power cannot strictly be said to be a green energy source. This is because it generates a lot of environmentally harmful byproducts in the form of nuclear waste.
