My School Garden – Short Essay

I was very fond of my school garden. I spent most of my lunch break in the school garden. My school’s garden was a big garden.

Our school garden was designed to suit the needs of children. While playing on grass was forbidden, we were allowed to sit there. In winters we spent our time basking sunlight in the school garden.

There were 3 gardeners who look after my school garden. Anil, Vikash, and Mukesh. They were in their thirties and very active when it came to maintaining the garden. The principal kept a strict eye on them. She liked to keep the school garden neat and lively. She had even issued a notice to fine students who created a mess in the school garden. Because everyone was scared of her they never littered in the garden.

How I spent time in My School Garden:

I spent my time in my school garden by:

  • Reading books or studying
  • Sitting with friends
  • Playing cards or board games

Like most students, I preferred to read in the school garden. It was a pretty garden with trees surrounding one boundary wall from the inside. The path across the garden was lined with stone slabs to make sure students didn’t trample the grass. On either side of the garden were six benches with umbrella shades that could be opened and closed. Between each bench were potted flowers of a number of types and colours.

One wall in the garden was covered by the money plant which thrived under good care. Sometimes during the fall season, we would help the gardener pull out weeds, water the plants and help out.

Birds often visited the garden and hopped along the grass, searching for food. Because of flowers, we often saw a butterfly or two fluttering about. This scene made it very relaxing for us to spend time in the school garden. I would sit there with my friends to talk, relax, nap and even play games. I enjoyed spending time in my school garden a lot.
