My Garden – Short Essay

I love my garden. It is my place of solace. I spend most of my time tending to my garden. I have a front garden and a kitchen garden I have grown vegetables in my kitchen garden. I learned gardening from my mother. She used to love planting flowers and tending to them in her spare time.

I have always wanted to have a garden of my own since I was a child. I had read a book called Secret Garden which was a story of a girl who made her garden her sanctuary. She was a cripple and couldn’t do much, but she could plant lovely flowers and keep birds. I identified with her a lot.

My mother was encouraging my hobby as well. She taught me how to plant seeds, prepare the soil and look after the plants. She taught me to use saplings and roots to grow more plants. It was an invaluable skill that fed my passion. I love daisies, tulips and roses so I planted them all in my garden. I also like cactus, money plant and grape vines.

I have a path cut out of cobblestones to lead me to the back side across the grass. A mango tree on the left side is adorned with small fairy lights that light up during the night. I have a small bird fountain as well that attracts all types of birds to my garden.

My kitchen garden is equally good to look at. I have divided the ground into sections with help of small fences. These fences help to distinguish the vegetables from each other. To ensure I don’t forget, I have put up small signposts with labels. The hardest part of keeping a kitchen garden is preventing birds from eating the saplings. So I had to cover the garden with green cloth. It doesn’t prevent sunshine, air and water but prevents birds from ruining the plants as they are sprouting and taking root.

My garden looks very pretty. I get compliments from visitors all the time. I have even been offered contracts to design other people’s gardens. It gives me satisfaction to grow plants. I love to do gardening and I love my garden.
