My First Day at School – Short Essay

I was not eager about my first day at school. I didn’t have many friends. The noise and commotion that could only be caused by little kids were unnatural to me. I was shy, nervous and anxious about going there. But my mother assured me I would make friends and it will be all right. I trusted her and went inside to meet my classmates.

I was a student in a class of 25 children. It was a co-education school till 6th grade. I remember feeling out of place as everyone was playing, laughing and shouting. I didn’t know anyone at my school so I chose an empty table and sat on the bench.

A boy smaller than me and with glasses walked up to me and put out his hand. He introduced himself as Ankit and that’s how I made my first friend. Everything else fell into place after that. My lunchbox with a Tom and Jerry cartoon sticker prompted Ankit to quiz me about my favourites. We quickly discovered we had much in common and so it was decided we would be friends for life.

Soon our teacher showed up. She was a young and sweet person with a soft-spoken voice. I liked her from the beginning. She introduced us to our books and subjects. Informed us about what manners she expected from us. I could tell the other students liked her too because they listened attentively. Other teachers weren’t that successful, but it could have been because by that time we had become very relaxed and loud. I had more fun at recess because Ankit introduced me to more boys and we became friends quickly. Later that day we all met at Ankit’s home and played games.

The first impression is the last impression and the impression made on my little mind by making friends was one that stuck forever. It made me feel excited to go to school. The school wasn’t as hard or boring as I had been warned by my aunts. I was able to receive good grades and excel in studies from the beginning. I owe it all to the first day at school.
