Importance of the Environment – Essay

The environment is made up of many factors all around including both the living and the non living things. The living things constitute the animals all inclusive while the non-living constitutes majorly the plants, soil, air and water.

Together, the living and the non- living things complement each other, knowingly or unknowingly towards a sustainable living.

The environment however is represented most often by members of the plant population particularly trees.

Source of habitat

Animals live out in the wild and therefore rely on the environment for shelter and habitat. This kind of habitat is natural and plays a significant role in the survival of the animals.

Source of natural resources

Natural resources like minerals are out-sourced from the environment. It is therefore clear that the environment plays a role in enriching the economy and the pride of the named country. Gold is often collected from streams as sediments and this is owed to the environment.

Source of medicine

Certain medicines including herbs trace their origins back to plants of different species. These have played a very key role over the years in the treatment of diseases both traditionally as well as in the modern world particularly now when science has made research expand its scope to the wild in pursuit of safe and cheaper ways to cure certain diseases.

Source of water

Rivers and all water bodies form part of the environment and by extension, have been used as sources of water to supply communities and families with the basic need.

Fresh air

The environment also plays a role in the maintenance of a sustainable environment. Fresh air is determined by plants which taken in carbon (IV) oxide and release oxygen to the atmosphere during the day.

Raw materials

The environment is a rich source of raw materials for many industries. Paper, fuel and many other fundamental commodities use trees as sources of raw materials towards industry development and production.

Natural beauty

Trees, water and all constituents of the environment have a beautifying effect on the environment. They have a completing effect making the world around look beautiful.

Large influence on climate

Trees and plants at large influence the climate by maintaining the integrity of the ozone layer. They also play a part in attracting rain hence further enriching the ecosystem.

Shelter and shade

Trees provide shelter and shade for animals and also human beings particularly when the sun is too hot or when it is raining making them an asset. Good shade is precious when the scorching sun is on.

Soil stability protection

Plants help prevent soil erosion as they hold the soil together and in position. Bare land will often see rain water wash away the soil.

Source of food

The environment is a source of food for both human beings and animals. Edible plants grow in the environment and promote the healthy living of living things.

Promotion of art

Trees and artifacts sourced from the environment have been used to promote art. Cooking sticks and pots have been curved out of wood. Shells from water bodies have also been incorporated into art by the making of ornaments and other decorative things.

Electricity generation.

Waterfalls are presently helpful in the driving of turbines to generate energy for electricity production, a fundamental part of human life.

Education

Lower education levels use the environment as a means to educate children and familiarize them with their surroundings. The environment is also a means for study for higher levels of education in research and social sciences.

Fun and entertainment

The environment forms the most basic form of entertainment accessible to everyone. People go for mountain climbing activities, sea diving and even sightseeing.

The environment is the greatest player in the game of life and should be protected in every way. It protects life and health and many other parameters that are necessary for both animal and plant life.
