I bet, none of us would have ever thought what a railway station actually consists of. So, here are a few essential points, which depicts what a railway station should actually be having which will make a railway station, the best railway station you might ever see:

Name of the station – The biggest part and the most important part of a railway station is its name because without the name of a station; one cannot recognize from which station or on which station one is arriving or departing from. A big nameplate on the entrance gate and then various small nameplates at various parts of a railway station are placed to make sure that people identify which railway station it is.

Platforms – The bigger the number of platforms on a station, the bigger the name of the railway station becomes. For example, Delhi is the capital of the country, but Delhi railway station doesn’t have such amount of platforms that it can accommodate various trains arriving and departing on the station. That is why, the rail authority decided to move some of the trains to nearby stations like New Delhi, Delhi Sarai Rohilla, Hazrat Nizammudin, etc. Platforms are actually the places from where you board or get off the train.

Various food stalls – It is very natural that while traveling one will feel hungry or thirsty, so that is why for people’s convenience, railway allows various food vendors to place their food stalls on various platforms of the railway station. And usually, the most crowded place on a railway station is various kinds of food stalls only. The food stalls on the platforms of a railway station are generally cheaper than people selling their items inside the trains etc. One may get to eat chips, biscuits, snacks, lunch, dinner and various other items.

Security – Every section of railways needs some sort of security, and that is why GRP and RPF are available at every section of the railway. Similarly, a number of RPF employees would be available on the station as well to make sure that if any passenger has found any kind of security breach, they can find the solution to eat as early as possible. Moreover, the RPF staff is placed to hear the complaints of the passengers.

Toilets and Washrooms – A few years back, a lot of railway stations didn’t have washrooms and toilets, but now, all the railway stations whether they are smaller in size or bigger ones, have dedicated washrooms and toilets for Males, females, and disabled persons. At most of the stations the toilets and washrooms are free of cost, but at some metro cities, you may get charged a few rupees for using washroom or toilet.

The crowd – The biggest point that everyone should notice that a railway station always remains crowded and one gets a lot of chances to become socially active as on a railway station one can interact with a lot of people easily.

A railway station is one of the most common places that we visit daily, and even if we visit it daily, we don’t get time to see around us what things could be combined to make a railway station. There are certain other noticeable things available on the railway station as well which one can observe once he travels there himself.
