Introduction to Kuroiler Chicken:

The Kuroiler is a hybrid chicken breed introduce by Vinod Kapur of Keggfarms Group in Gurgaon, Haryana. Kuroilers are a cross breed from broiler males with Rhode Island Red females, or, White Leghorn males crossed with female Rhode Island Reds.

The main advantages of this breed chicken is its laying capability, it is a good layer and  it lays a lot of eggs (140 to 150) per year. The meat of  Kuroiler chicken is very soft with a good taste, making it the best kienyenji bird for eggs and meat. The kurolier chickens are heavy feeders, this say that they are super-productive. Kuroiler chickens are insatiable they love scavenging in the fields.

This bird’s breed’s name is derived from the word BROILER, and then African Americanized to get the name KUROILER but we now see different variations of the same name; KROILER, CROILER, CUROILER, etc.

Origin of Kuroiler Chicken:

Kuroiler is a best of kienyenji chicken breed. It was initially introduced to Ugandans, and then to Kenyans. This chicken breed can survive anywhere in Kenya, including arid areas, Kuroiler has been spread round the world since 2009.

The breed is commonly seen in rural areas of India, like Chhattisgarh, Jharkhand, Meghalaya, Mizoram, Uttarakhand, Uttar Pradesh and West Bengal. It is a house bird,  where the women of India breed Kuroiler chicken as a full time or part time business

The Kienyeji chicken is the most preferred chicken for rearing in Kenya for its sweet, healthy meat and its yellow York egg. And this rearing is not that profitable, when it comes to income generation as its growth rate is very slow.

Physical Characteristics of Kuroiler Chicken Breed:

  • Kuroilers chickens are dual-purpose breeds reared for both meat and eggs. They can feed on can live on a diet of kitchen and agricultural waste, and produce around 150 eggs per year  and the native Indian hens lay only 40 per year.
  • Kuroiler chickens have white and grey specks, which makes them well-camouflaged. All the same, you can see in other colorful Kuroilers.
  • Kuroilers chickens have unique genetic features, the Kuroiler chickens are highly resistant to diseases. The kuroiler chickens are potential bio-converter of no cost agricultural, household and natural waste.

  • Brahma chickens are large, stately, docile birds they not suitable for brooding.
  • Kuroilers are producer of high amounts of meat. They get fattened very quickly and you don’t need any special care or investment in rearing this breed chickens.
  • Kuroilers are more resilient than some exotic breeds. They are very resisting diseases, but the environmental challenges may affect them a lot. The meat production will be relatively high as long as you provide feed properly. This breed chicken will be mature in 10 to 11 weeks, and weighs 3.5kgs at the time of maturity. Male kuroiler are heavier than females.
  • Kruoiler broilers weigh 2 to 2.5 kilograms at the time of maturity, Kuroiler chickens are the perfect choice commercial farming, meat is evenly distributed over the chicken’s body parts.
  • Kuroilers start laying eggs at the of 5 months. As soon as their laying season lasts for 2 years. They lay an extremely big egg with a dark-yellow yolk. This yolk color is associated with good health, this is the reason that earns good profits in your business.
  • For Hatching –Kuroiler hen won’t support for hatching. They don’t sit on her eggs, so they can hatch. So, you need an incubator or buy some readily hatched chicks. In incubation only, eighty percent of Kuroiler eggs will hatch.

Disadvantages of Kuroiler Chicken Breed:

  • They are very bad brooders. They don’t sit on the eggs.
  • And the farmer should buy new stock each time to keep new Kuroiler chickens.
