Important Disease of Chilli

1. Damping off
2. Dieback
3. Anthracnose
4. Left curl

1. Damping Off:

Symptoms:

1. This disease is found on seedlings in nursery and at earlier stage of crop growth.
2. Brownish water soaked lesion is appeared at the base of the stem.
3. Shrinking or rottening of affected tissues of stem take place which results in falling of the affected seedlings.

C. M:

1. Seed treatment with ceresin @ 2 gm/kg seed.
2. Spray 1% Bordeaux mixture on seedlings.
3. Avoid crowding of seedlings and water stagnation conditions in nursery.

2. Dieback:

Symptoms:

1. This disease is observed at flowering stage of chilli crop.
2. Drying of braches start from the tip and proceed to base hence called as dieback.

C. M:

1. Seed treatment with ceresin @ 2 gm/kg seed.
2. Spray 1% Bordeaux mixture on seedlings.

4. Leaf Curl:

Symptoms:

1. Leaves become small due to curling of leaf margins in ward and upwards take place due to infection of leaf curl virus.
2. In severe attack leaves fall down and the growth of the plant is stopped.
3. It is transmitted by thrips and aphids.

C. M:

1. Rogue out infected plants.
2. Grow resistant varieties.
3. Control the attack of thrips and aphids by spraying insecticides.
